So I went to a 2 day tournament event over the weekend and had a blast.
3rd in skullgirls
2-2 Marvel
1-2 SSFIV
1-2 SFXT (2v2 x.x)
2nd place Blazblue
2-2 Mystery game tournament (Last Blade 2,Project Justice, Marvel 2 and Vampire Savior for me)
During SSFIV I had to fight a Gouken player first. He seemed pretty solid but of course did not take into consideration the power of the Shamwow. Much like Akuma it beats all of Goukens flip options. This probably won me the match on top of standing HK pokes and forcing him to approach by absorbing fireballs.
Then I fought a Chun-Li player. He was much more patient than I was. I managed to take the first game but he adapted better than I did. I tried switching to Guy since I was tired at that point and didn't care much. He beat Guy easily compared to Rose.
After that I was in Loser's against somebody I noticed that hadn't really played fighters a huge amount. He said he was either going Zangief or Vega depending on what I picked. After picking Rose he went with Gief to which I responded "Oh I thought you'd go Vega for sure" I proceeded to easily take 2 rounds against Gief getting one perfect so he switched to Vega.
At this point I did not think anybody was watching my match. I was doing ok in the ground game and was ready for low level Vega Shenanigans. It has been a really long time since i've fought a Vega and I really could not recall which air normal Rose was supposed to use to beat Vega. In the end this sad turn of events cost me the match to a much less-skilled opponent. After he took the first game I decided to just try and figure out which normal beat the Vega flip completely uncaring as to whether or not I would win.
I lost, I probably could have just blocked every time but I wanted to know. I think Neutral MP was the answer but I don't think I tried it. Anyway the Chun-Li player from the previous match was watching me. We had a pretty good set so I think he was interested in how I would do.
He had a match coming up but told me that "He wanted to talk to me" when he was done. After he finished he came up and asked me something along the lines of "Do you play with a bunch of friends who tell you that something is cheap?" I told him not really and that most of my friends understand fighters for the most part. He informed me that I was much better than my opponent and that I shouldn't have lost that (Which I knew for the most part). He told me that I should have just blocked and tried to do something before he could flip again since I was not finding a button to counter him in the air. He was giving me a good speech about not worrying about if people call you cheap or not and that I should have kept doing soul throw. I told him that I wouldn't mind being thinking I was cheap and that soul throw is just very hard to hit Vega with so I was testing buttons. Overall I think he understood that I stopped caring about getting the win and was just trying to find what worked but it was very kind of him to try and give me advice and to actually have a complete stranger interested in watching my match after we just fought.
That guy was pretty cool and I hope to play him again xD.
PS:I really don't know how that Vega gave me so much trouble, I was confident in Rose's long-reaching air normals and I have never had trouble with Vega in the past. /shrug I was probably just too tired and apathetic, it was 5pm and I woke up at 11:40 PM the previous day.
